Bicycle Touring
Mexico to Colombia (Apr 2013-Jan 2014)
On 12 April 2013, we set off on a bicycle tour starting in Mexico with the ambition of reaching Ushuaia, Argentina. We began turning our pedals through five beautiful Mexican states (Guanajuato, Michoacan, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas) before continuing our route through the gorgeous dirt roads of Guatemala and continuing south into Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia. Sadly, we were forced to cut the trip short in short in Colombia when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (I’m okay now).
Whilst Colombia gave a titillating taster of the Andes, we didn’t get to experience the epic dirt road passes of Peru, the salars of Bolivia or the biodiversity of Patagonia. Consequently, we feel like we’ve got some unfinished business with America Sur. It’s beckoning us to return and finish what we started.
Despite the abrupt end to the tour, we had an amazing adventure just getting from Mexico to Colombia. The links below provide a look at our route and some highlights.
