Balneario Aguas Termales, Gracias, Honduras

Since arriving in Honduras, it seems like we’ve been staying in hotels more often than camping, so we were excited to find out about these thermal hot springs (aguas termales) with onsite camping near Gracias, Lempira, Honduras. The entrance fee is only 50 Lempiras (£1.60) per person and includes camping. We couldn’t think of a better way to relax after a hard day in the saddle!

There are various thermal pools at different temperatures for swimming or soaking.

Unfortunately, they do not allow you to bring food from outside the premises, but there is a basic comedor serving comida tipica for 50 Lempiras each. I found the serving sizes a bit small, so I decided to eat two whole dinners. Jenny opted for dessert as usual. We did manage to prepare our usual porridge the next morning without raising any eyebrows, so it seems the rules aren’t strict enforced.

We pitched our tent right beside one of the warmer pools.

The site is very well lit at night time and stays open from 6am – 11pm. There are security guards and cameras, so the place is very safe for cyclo-camping. It can get a bit noisy; there was some sort of thermal bath ‘lock in’ party raging on at around 3am. Fortunately, we just popped in our earplugs and had no trouble dozing off.
